What is a domain name?
A domain is a unique character based name allowing a web site (or host) on the Internet to be easily identifiable and memorized (e.g.. yourname.co.uk), this is much easier than using the alternative of an IP address (e.g.. 212.1.130.136).

What are the different types of domains available?
The most popular TLDs (Top Level Domains) are .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info .tv .fm, .name, .me.uk, .co.uk and .org.uk. .tv however we offer many more extensions that may be more applicable to you, please take a look at our WHOIS page to see all the options.

How long is a domain registered for?
All registrations are for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 10 years with the exception of the Nominet .uk extension domains that can only be registered for a fixed period of two years although this may change in the future.

What is forwarding?
Forwarding enables you to use your existing ISP or hosting provider with your domain name. Therefore any existing web space that you may have, can be utilized by forwarding requests made to your domain name to your existing web space. We can offer this service to you.
An example of web forwarding:
Your site is currently stored at www.freespace.co.uk/user456/joessite/
Using forwarding with your domain name (mynewdomain.co.uk) this site will now be accessed via www.mynewdomain.co.uk, which is much easier to remember!

Why is my new domain showing as available?
We register Domains immediately however it takes between 24 and 72 hours for the WHOIS database to update with your registration information.

What characters can be used in a domain name?
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
1234567890 and - (dash/hyphen)
Please note - domain names are NOT case sensitive Global domain names (.com .net .org) must be less then 64 characters this includes the 4 characters.com. and 26 characters for a .co.uk & .org.uk not including the suffix. Domain names can contain letters, numbers or hyphens (-) no spaces or other characters are allowed. Two character domain names will not be accepted by some registries such as Nominet for the .uk extension however .com can (if available).

Will I receive a certificate after my purchase?
No, due the volume of registrations domain registration certificates are not issued by the registries however Nominet for the .uk registry do send written confirmation to you. When you make a purchase we recommend you check the WHOIS after 24 hours to check your registration and you can also Logon to you Account to view your domains and transactions.

What will I have to pay after my registration period has expired?
Price Guarantee. f you stay with the same domain and hosting package the price you pay today will be the same at renewal whether you have chosen 1 year or 10 year packages

Who owns the domain name?
Each domain is registered with the applicable registry such as Nominet for .uk extensions Icann for .com etc. and each registries term and conditions also apply to each registration. If you register a domain for one year or more you have a legal right to the domain for that period as each registry works on a first come first served basis however there have been cases where people have had their domains taken away because they have registered a TRADE MARKED name such as MacDonalds. This does not happen in every case and is handled through independent arbitrators appointed by the registry but we do recommend caution when choosing a name as we do not refund registrants under these circumstances.

Can I transfer my Domain to another ISP?
You can leave us at anytime and we will not charge you. If you register a Domain and Purchase a Hosting Package under our Price Guarantee if within 30 days you notify us by E-mail or post that you are not happy with our service for what ever reason you may cancel and we will refund the cost of the Hosting. Unfortunately we cannot refund the Domain Registration as once registered a domain cannot be canceled however you will be free to move to another registrar but please be aware that some registries such as Icann (.com etc) will not allow a new registration or recently transferred in registration to be moved within 60 days, this was implemented to help prevent theft and fraudulent transfers of domains but providing we are notified within 30 days we will transfer after the 60 days has lapsed

Can I cancel my domain purchase?
No so before confirming your order please ensure that your domain is spelt correctly and is the domain name you require as Domain registrations cannot be canceled you can however choose to let the domain registration period lapse, therefore automatically relinquishing ownership of the domain but no refunds can be given on the registration SORRY.

Can I buy HOSTING without a buying or transferring a domain?
Yes to buy hosting without a domain or without transferring a domain click here when the transaction is complete point the nameservers for your domain to ns.mainnameserver.com and ns2.mainnameserver.com then login to the SUPPORT AREA and email the domain (inc extension e.g. .com) and we will add it to our DNS and point it to your hosting account.
